This brings us closer to what it really costs to offer this community, including fair pay for the people who facilitate and hold it. Choose this if you can cover it without strain.

Choose this if the Sustaining rate would stretch you: your income is limited or irregular, you are not sponsored by an employer, or you are supporting others.
Fully supported places at gatherings
If you're not a member, you can come to gatherings and skillshares by paying per gathering, on the same sliding scale. Membership has no free tier, but our gatherings and skillshares do. If paying would make it harder to meet basic needs like housing, food or healthcare, you can request a fully supported place. These places are limited. You never need to show documents or explain your situation. Your presence matters here, and it helps this community reflect the realities of the people it is for.
Choosing a tier is a relational choice
What you give isn't only about money. It's a way of saying: this is how I want to be in relationship with this community, and with the people who hold it.
So we want to be honest about where we stand. Healing Justice Netherlands has no government contracts, no large grants and no wealthy backers. What makes this space possible will come from a mix: members' contributions, gatherings, our work with organisations, and supporters who believe in this work. No single source gets to set our priorities. Everyone who does the work here gets paid: facilitators, speakers, artists, organisers, the co builders who hold this community day to day, and the founder. We don't run on unpaid labour, because asking people of colour to give their care for free is part of what we are here to change. If each of us gives what we can and receives what we need, this community can grow.
Money is one way of sustaining this community, not the measure of what you give to it. Your contribution never determines your belonging, your voice or your importance here.
We don't believe the story that there isn't enough. That story was never ours. There is enough when resources move with intention, from those who have more to those who have less. That's interdependence, not as an idea, but as a practice.
Reflect as you choose
Look beyond your income to your wider position. If several of these questions are a yes for you, we ask you to choose Sustaining or Solidarity.
- Residence and right to work
- Do you have Dutch or EU citizenship, or permanent residence? Is your right to work secure, without depending on one employer or one permit?
- Race and wealth over generations
- Are you non-Black, or light skinned? Consider how anti-Blackness and colourism have shaped who gets to build wealth and security, here and in our home communities.
- Gender and sexuality
- Are you straight and cisgender? Consider your contribution as support for the queer and trans people at the heart of this community.
- Disability and access to care
- Can you work full days without pain or exhaustion? Do you have reliable access to healthcare and the support you need?
- Education and family wealth
- Do you have a university or hbo degree? Savings? Does your family own a home, here or elsewhere?
- Care and money you send home
- Are you only providing for yourself? Or are you caring for children or elders, or sending money to family abroad?
- Power at work
- Do you manage people, own a business, or hold influence in your organisation or sector? Could your employer cover your membership?
There is no test and no one will check. We trust you to locate yourself honestly, and to choose with awareness and care.
Become a founding member
Founding members are the first people to say: I'm in. It's a membership, not a donation: you contribute monthly on the sliding scale, and in return you receive:
- Entry to our community gatherings. Some special workshops may have their own contribution, on the same sliding scale.
- A say in what we do: choosing the skillshare topics each season, through short polls or the monthly members' circle.
- Seeing where the money goes, including a community report twice a year.
- Short practices to use between gatherings, because bodies change through repetition, not one evening a month.
We'll always ask you. You never have to do the work. Most members come to gatherings and share their view now and then, and that is enough. If you want to go deeper, by hosting, facilitating or joining a working group, the door is always open.
A pledge is a promise, not a payment. Nothing is charged now. When membership opens in early 2027, we'll ask you to confirm your tier before anything is paid. You can change your tier or withdraw at any time.
To be honest about the numbers: founding memberships alone won't fund this community, at least not at first. Your pledge matters most as a commitment to building it together. In the early years, much of our income will come from gatherings and our work with organisations, which is why we hold that work to clear conditions.
We're beginning with a small founding cohort of around 20 people. Want to support without joining? You can pledge as a supporter using the same form. If you are white and want to stand with this work, we also invite you to do your own healing around whiteness, alongside other white people.
What your pledge makes possible
Every pledge is a thread in the network. Together, pledges from members and supporters fund:
- Gatherings, learning sessions and story circles, held by people from our community who are paid for their work.
- A limited number of partially and fully supported places at our gatherings and skillshares, so money is less often the reason someone stays home.
- Fair pay for the facilitators, speakers and artists who share their knowledge with us.
- As we grow, community resources like guides and zines on navigating Dutch systems, printed and free to take.
As we grow, and once the money is there, we hope to add a mutual aid fund for moments when someone in our community needs support quickly, and a yearly gathering celebrating queer makers, artists and creatives of colour. We'll only launch these when we can sustain them, and members will help decide how they work.
